Determinants of Poverty Among the Middle-Aged with Working History
Kim Jae-Ho

Abstract
This study analyzed the effects of the middle-aged`s working history to both the labor state and the poverty. There for the bivariate probit estimation was used to control the correlation between the labor state and poverty. The main results show that, first, to continue on the main job in the life increases the probability to be in poverty than to retire perfectly. Because the group to continue on the main job in the life was mostly made of self-employer/employer/unpaid-family-worker to get low level`s income. But the group to continue as a regular worker on the main job in the life was less likely to be poverty than to retire perfectly. Second, to re-enter to labor market after to retire on the main job in the life was less likely to be poverty than to retire perfectly. But the group to re-enter to labor market after to retire as a regular worker on the main job in the life was more likely to be poverty than to retire perfectly. Third, to continue on the main job in the life increases the probability to be in poverty than to re-enter. Therefore this study suggests as political proposal that it is suitable for salary peak system to be targeted for the regular worker on the main job in the life and for the job creation to be targeted for the re-enterer labor market after the retirement on the main job in the life.
